About the position

The Project Engineer at Zalk Josephs Fabricators plays a crucial role in estimating and project management within the structural steel fabrication industry. This position involves performing detailed quantity take-offs, preparing bid documents, and maintaining project records to ensure effective communication and collaboration among various teams. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and possess strong communication skills to manage multiple projects efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quantity take off via on-screen software in conjunction with Tekla Fabsuite.
  • Organize, enter, and prepare estimate reports within Fabsuite or Excel, reviewing for accuracy and completeness.
  • Setup bid folders for new estimates and download necessary drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare accurate scope directives and requests for quotes for subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Prepare and submit bid RFIs as needed.
  • Develop and maintain positive sub/supplier relationships through consistent communication.
  • Assist sales team during scope review meetings and promote Zalk Josephs positively.
  • Collaborate with sales and engineering to discuss value-add ideas.
  • Create and maintain up-to-date PDF drawing sets and revision logs of contract documents.
  • Draft RFIs and request & review submittals, submitting to clients for approval.
  • Manage project records including drawings, RFI submittals, and purchase orders.
  • Draft and enter purchase orders for subcontracts/contractors for approval by Project Manager.
  • Gather appropriate insurance certificates for all subcontractors on a project basis.
  • Review and cost code invoices for final approval by PM.
  • Coordinate with field personnel and sub/suppliers to ensure project information is communicated effectively.
  • Collaborate with internal departments including engineering, purchasing, estimating, sales, operations, HR, and finance.
  • Ensure a high quality of work is performed on all projects.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively both externally and internally.

Requirements

  • Highly organized, thorough, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with personnel at all organizational levels.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or equivalent technical training and experience.
  • Previous experience in estimating, cost control, and/or construction management in a similar environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
