About the position

The Structural Steel Engineer at Tutor Perini will play a crucial role in managing projects from inception to completion, ensuring that all goals related to safety, quality, profitability, and schedule are met or exceeded. This position is based in the New Rochelle, NY office and involves a variety of responsibilities that contribute to the successful execution of large-scale infrastructure projects. The engineer will participate in project safety programs, conduct observations and audits, and assist Project Managers and Superintendents with various project-related tasks. In this role, the Structural Steel Engineer will be responsible for identifying and promoting changes that enhance productivity and quality on the project. Effective communication with Project Owners, Designers, Architects, and Engineering teams is essential to address project schedules, issues, and activities. The engineer will develop Requests for Information (RFIs), work plans, and submittals, while also tracking and reporting on the quantities of work performed and understanding the associated costs. Additionally, the engineer will assist in the development and maintenance of Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules, maintain as-built drawings with the help of field staff, and ensure that the contract scope is clearly communicated to the field staff. The role may also involve performing other related duties as assigned by higher-level management, making it a dynamic and integral position within the project team.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in project safety programs, observations, and audits
  • Assists Project Managers and Superintendents with project related tasks
  • Assists in identifying and promoting changes to improve productivity and quality on the project
  • Effectively communicates with Project Owner/Designer/Architect/Engineering regarding project schedule, issues and activities occurring on the project
  • Develops RFI's, work plans and submittals for the project
  • Tracks and reports quantities of work performed and understands associated costs of such
  • Develops time and material final pricing submittals
  • Assists with CPM schedule development and maintenance
  • Maintains as-built drawings with assistance from field staff
  • Understands and communicates contract scope to field staff
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent from accredited institution
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in structural steel erection, heavy civil construction, bridge, vertical construction, or other steel structures
  • Experience actively interfacing with fabricators, subcontractors, & owners to resolve design issues, procurement issues, and constructability issues
  • Coordination of contract drawings, design drawings, and shop drawings to facilitate an erectable final structure
  • Experience actively interface with design engineers & construction engineers to develop thorough 'means & methods' process
  • Accurately realize 'to-date' costs and project 'final' costs thru completion
  • Proficiency with MS Office products (Word/Excel)
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
