About the position

The Project Engineer at Oerlikon is responsible for managing projects from inception to commissioning, ensuring that all requirements from process engineers, production personnel, and senior management are met. This role involves planning projects to minimize costs and downtime, sourcing necessary parts and labor, and tracking project progress and expenditures. The Project Engineer will handle projects with budgets ranging from $10,000 to $500,000, and will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a project manager for projects generated by others.
  • Create capital expenditure requests (Non-Order-Based Spending).
  • Design simple mechanical solutions, including pipework and simple parts/structures.
  • Maintain positive liaison with existing vendors.
  • Source new vendors for parts, equipment, and labor.
  • Obtain competitive quotations from multiple vendors.
  • Identify and propose upgrades and/or purchase of new equipment.
  • Occasionally work with Quality to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Work closely with the Financial Controller on project costing and tracking.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder.
  • 5+ years of project experience in industrial environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of CAD required; proficiency in three-dimensional CAD preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a cross-functional team.
  • Ability to foster and maintain relationships with vendors.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency interpreting mechanical drawings (e.g. pipework and instrumentation diagrams, CAD drawings of parts and structures).
  • Willingness to get hands-on with dirty, noisy, and hot equipment when help is needed.
