About the position

The Project Engineer at The Garland Company, Inc. is responsible for managing building-related engineering projects, serving as a liaison between the sales team, architects, engineers, contractors, and customers. This role involves generating and interpreting proposals, estimates, and project designs, ensuring compliance with various building codes and product approvals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultation and expert advice to customers, management, sales force, architects, and customers regarding products and roofing techniques.
  • Manage outside engineering and architectural consultants to estimate, propose, produce, and deliver successful projects.
  • Direct vendors on engineering projects, including Shop Drawings, Structural Evaluations, and Engineering Calculations.
  • Write technical proposals, including cover letters, executive summaries, and project descriptions for government proposal requirements.
  • Develop product and project designs according to building codes and product approvals.
  • Interpret construction drawings and guide drafting personnel in generating new drawings.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and problem-solving for sales force, architects, and customers, including site visits for assessments.
  • Proofread and edit technical documents and proposals.
  • Manage engineering-related consulting contracts.
  • Assist in presenting PowerPoint presentations to potential customers and at trade shows.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in engineering consulting, preferably in roofing and/or building enclosure science.
  • Post-secondary degree in engineering, building and construction, or architectural degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer's or Architect's license is a plus.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and spreadsheet design.
  • Working knowledge of construction product specifications and detailing.
  • Knowledge of general design principles, building codes, and roofing/building enclosure science.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn new concepts quickly and work independently or in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Adherence to health and safety regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with international building codes and approvals.
  • Familiarity with project management software.
