About the position

The Project Engineer provides technical support to and under the direction of the Project Manager and Superintendent. A Project Engineer's primary obligation is project document control. Additionally, the Project Engineer should gain competence in project administration, procurement, coordination and scheduling tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain the project document control system.
  • Review project specifications and drawings to comply with contract requirements and adhere to procedures in the HDCCO Project Management Manual.
  • Review project team and subcontractor Requests for Information (RFIs) and generate new RFIs as needed.
  • Review contract documents to confirm RFI necessity and format questions appropriately.
  • Transmit RFIs to the design team, maintain status logs, and manage RFI responsiveness.
  • Review specifications for project submittal requirements and create project submittal log.
  • Ensure subcontractors make timely submittals and review them for conformance with contract documents.
  • Create and track material procurement log regularly.
  • Assist in management of project permit and deferred submittal permit processes.
  • Attend and document project meetings, including agendas and minutes.
  • Provide material quantity takeoffs for change order estimating and billing review.
  • Evaluate subcontractor pricing by reviewing scope changes in contract documents.
  • Assist Superintendent in maintaining project schedule and distributing information to subcontractors.
  • Generate coordination drawings for ease of installation and QA/QC in the field.
  • Provide BIM coordination with MEP detailers for constructability and code compliance.
  • Review ongoing construction work and maintain project as-built drawings.
  • Assist Superintendent in tracking and inspecting material deliveries.
  • Bring field issues to the attention of Superintendent or Project Manager.
  • Take jobsite photos to document construction progress.
  • Document and coordinate punch list work with subcontractors.
  • Review project specifications and track project close-out requirements.
  • Mentor and train Interns, new hire Project Engineers and Project Coordinators.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Zero Harm to People, Property, and Planet.

Requirements

  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Basic computer skills and working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Fundamental understanding of construction, including estimating and scheduling.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
  • 4-year engineering, construction management or architectural degree or equivalent-related experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with MS Project (or P6).
