About the position

The Project Engineer at MasTec's Clean Energy and Infrastructure Group will oversee and execute project controls and management across multiple disciplines. This role involves direct support to project management, contract administration, project planning, scheduling, procurement, and reporting, while ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders involved in the project.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage field office staff including engineers, office manager, document control, and procurement personnel.
  • Represent the company professionally in all client interactions.
  • Provide contract-required reports to clients on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Understand and follow corporate and site-specific safety plans.
  • Create quantity calculation formulas for material completion tracking.
  • Develop processes for work plans and work packages.
  • Ensure site quality plans are communicated and inspections are completed on time.
  • Manage daily labor timesheets and compile weekly average labor rates.
  • Train employees on completing Job Safety Analysis (JSA's).
  • Participate in jobsite safety reviews and training sessions.
  • Order and schedule material deliveries, developing procurement status reports.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite.
  • Perform material takeoffs from drawings and specifications.
  • Conduct basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations.
  • Direct Field Engineers in data preparation for various stakeholders.
  • Manage procurement and subcontract administration functions.
  • Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations.
  • Maintain project recordkeeping and correspondence functions.
  • Create and monitor project controls including productivity tracking and risk logs.
  • Generate change orders and as-built data for review by the Project Manager.
  • Drive the planning process through various scheduling techniques.
  • Assist the Project Manager with accounting and job cost updates.
  • Lead the budgeting process and alert management of cost trends.
  • Establish cashflow forecasts to ensure positive cashflow for the project.
  • Act as primary company representative in the absence of the Project Manager.
  • Develop and prepare Schedule of Values and invoices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related field.
  • Minimum five years of experience as a Field Engineer or similar role on heavy industrial projects.
  • Knowledge of health and safety programs and project-specific regulations.
  • Ability to participate in daily toolbox meetings and set a personal example of safe behavior.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to ethics and integrity.
  • Ability to delegate work and support team members to meet deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with heavy industrial projects.
  • Familiarity with project management software and tools.
