About the position

The University of Michigan's Office of the Vice President for Research is seeking a Project Intermediate Manager to oversee multiple concurrent projects that support the research community. This role involves managing project performance, developing work plans, and ensuring effective communication among stakeholders. The position requires strong writing skills to synthesize complex concepts into formal reports and presentations, contributing to the university's mission of fostering research and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, perform, and complete multiple concurrent projects under general direction.
  • Develop detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, and resource plans.
  • Maintain effective documentation for project owners and leadership teams.
  • Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Collaborate with business process owners to provide project scoping direction.
  • Communicate stakeholder requirements to team members and project progress to stakeholders.
  • Prepare written communications and presentations for various audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Coordinate and facilitate communication planning and deliverables for projects.
  • Synthesize complex concepts into written form in collaboration with faculty and staff committees.
  • Identify and assess issues, risks, and interdependencies, escalating appropriately.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in project management or similar roles.
  • Proven ability to create and manage detailed project plans, including schedules and resource allocation.
  • Strong written communication skills.
