About the position

Viasat is seeking a Project Lead Engineer with a strong passion for Cyber Security to join our team in protecting and defending our connected world. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in Cyber Security, complemented by experience in Software or Programmable Logic, and will have progressed into a leadership role after initially working as a hands-on developer. This position is critical in the development and certification of the Modern Key Loader (MKL) as a Standalone End Cryptographic Unit (ECU), which is essential for the protection and distribution of keys at TOP SECRET and Below levels. As a Project Engineer, you will lead all aspects of the design, development, production, testing, and maintenance of complex systems or products. You will collaborate with multi-functional teams, including Systems, Software, Hardware, Firmware, Mechanical, Security, and Operations, to evaluate designs and ensure successful project execution. Your role will involve serving as the primary technical resource for interdisciplinary teams and management, driving proposals, whitepapers, and customer support initiatives. In this position, you will oversee and guide development activities, conduct technical design and code reviews, and mentor junior engineers. You will define security, performance, and product requirements while working closely with validation labs to support engineering validation and verification product testing. Your responsibilities will also include maintaining and improving existing designs and source code, championing requirements decomposition, and leading investigations into root cause analysis of defects in hardware, software, and firmware. The ideal candidate will embrace the implementation of new tools and processes that enhance design-development-test automation and will push for the augmentation of existing security architectures to advance the state of the art through trade study analysis. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to excellence in all aspects of project management and engineering.
