About the position

The position involves leading and managing comprehensive financial audits and SOX compliance programs at United Airlines. The role is crucial for improving company performance, minimizing risk, and ensuring adherence to internal controls and procedures. The Finance team plays a vital role in the airline's profitability by providing detailed analyses and managing financial strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead, implement and report on comprehensive, risk-based financial audits and operational audits.
  • Help prepare the annual risk assessment and audit plan including resource budgeting and allocation.
  • Develop and promote a better understanding of policies and procedures within the department and the company.
  • Assist with projects in a portfolio of assigned audits and related activities, including staffing and scheduling.
  • Scope and implement risk-based audits, communicating findings with clients in a clear and timely manner.
  • Counsel and guide staff to ensure that approved audit objectives are met.
  • Prioritize and plan the SOX program for the Company, ensuring accurate SOX RCMs and test plans.
  • Identify control design and operating gaps and provide recommendations for remediation.
  • Coordinate with IT leadership on the design and evaluation of IT controls and key reports.
  • Proactively find opportunities for audit process automation and efficiencies.
  • Assist in coordinating activities between external auditors and business partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 4+ years' experience in public accounting or internal audit
  • 1-3 years of supervisory or project management experience
  • Relevant experience in controls related roles (SOX Compliance, internal controls, etc.)
  • CPA
  • Extensive knowledge of internal auditing principles and practices
  • Knowledge of the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF)

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Experience in overseeing SOX programs
  • Direct experience in the Airline or transportation industry
