About the position

The project management specialist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) will support the delivery of advanced manufacturing research and development activities at the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF). This role involves compiling information and preparing it for delivery in various formats to sponsors, ensuring effective communication of the impact of their funding. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to create technical documentation and support sponsor relations.

Responsibilities

  • Research and write technical collaboration case studies for sponsors and industry
  • Compile highlights reports for directorate leadership and sponsors
  • Liaise with scientific staff and conduct interviews to obtain scientific and technical highlights
  • Support the compilation and creation of presentations for industry and sponsors
  • Work with research teams to update and maintain handouts and related content for sponsors
  • Provide quarterly data updates on highlight submissions to MDF leadership
  • Compile content for display on MDF digital displays to promote staff achievements and accolades
  • Support in-house events by compiling information for event websites and attendee handouts
  • Maintain the list of MDF honors and awards
  • Align behaviors and interactions with ORNL's core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service.

Requirements

  • BS degree in communications, business, science, or a related field
  • Strong ability to write succinctly for both long- and short-form content
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn Chicago style
  • Ability to communicate messaging to targeted audiences
  • Ability to translate complicated scientific topics to plain language
  • Ability to self-organize and meet rolling project deadlines
  • Skilled at identifying key themes from large amounts of information
  • Ability to use diplomacy, tact, and professionalism
  • Ability to work collaboratively to create finished products.

Nice-to-haves

  • General knowledge of manufacturing sciences and engineering
  • Experience communicating science to leadership positions
  • Solid knowledge of design and aesthetic principles
  • Knowledge of working within an established brand identity.
