About the position

The Project Manager 3 (Engineering) position is a high-level role focused on managing and executing Transmission capital projects for a leading utility provider in the Pacific Northwest. This hybrid position involves overseeing project integration, planning, and execution, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget while adhering to industry standards. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a strong emphasis on risk management and resource allocation.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, initiate, and facilitate Transmission projects from inception to conclusion.
  • Coordinate activities for designated projects to ensure goals are accomplished within time and funding parameters.
  • Identify and request resources, resolving allocation issues with business units and performance managers.
  • Support the project team through the project management process, including scheduling and facilitating team meetings.
  • Assist Transmission managers in planning and building new high voltage substations and upgrading existing ones.
  • Engage with the business to understand needs, identify dependencies, and assist in deploying solutions.
  • Facilitate daily project implementation regarding scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Prepare, estimate, recommend, and monitor project budgets, alerting the manager of any funding concerns.
  • Facilitate project requirements, milestones, and expectations, monitoring the project schedule.
  • Allocate time for project team training in the project plan.
  • Proactively manage risks and alert the manager to areas of concern.
  • Obtain authorization for changes to project scope, cost, schedule, or performance when necessary.
  • Issue regular status reports and final reports, generating lessons learned for review.
  • Organize site visits for project team members as necessary, including overnight travel for larger projects.
  • Facilitate the transition of projects to other project managers, including training and documentation.
  • Provide technical input and recommendations to facilitate project decision-making, including drafting agendas and presenting information.

Requirements

  • Master's degree preferred; Bachelor's degree in engineering, project management, business administration, computer science, or a related technical field required.
  • 10 years of experience required with an applicable bachelor's degree; 12 years required without an applicable degree.
  • Experience in project management related to Utility Physical Security and Compliance, High Voltage Substation, and/or Telecommunication Systems.
  • 5 years of demonstrated project management experience using industry-standard methods and tools.
  • Experience in accurately assessing and estimating project costs.
  • Experience writing and understanding functional and technical specifications.
  • Experience developing project schedule timelines for major tasks.
  • Experience with SharePoint or similar programs.
  • Experience with Visio or similar programs.
  • Experience with MS Project or similar programs.
