About the position

The Project Manager - Civil Engineering position at the City of Plant City is responsible for overseeing multi-component civil engineering projects of varying sizes and complexities. This role involves managing project elements, contractors, and consultants while ensuring effective communication with city staff, utility companies, and the public. The Project Manager will plan, budget, and document all aspects of specific projects under the supervision of the City Engineer, ensuring compliance with city codes and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and prepare scope of work, specifications, construction cost estimates, and project schedules for various projects.
  • Provide project planning, direction, and leadership to implement projects of varying sizes.
  • Collaborate with project sponsors, stakeholders, and consultants to outline project goals, scope, deliverables, resources, budget, and timing.
  • Perform permitting work or oversee consultants to obtain necessary permits.
  • Work cross-functionally to solve problems and implement changes.
  • Review plans, specifications, and reports for sufficiency, accuracy, constructability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Prepare bid documents, requests for proposals, and other public procurement mechanisms.
  • Review designs of City projects for compliance with City Code and Standards.
  • Represent assigned projects at meetings, functions, and events.
  • Determine funding requirements, prepare project budget documents, monitor allocated funds, and control expenses.
  • Develop and present project documentation and reports.
  • Administer and inspect construction projects, review contractor schedules and submittals, and recommend approval of progress payments to the City Engineer.
  • Design and/or implement engineering modifications or improvements to projects under construction.
  • Analyze data to determine project effectiveness and implement adjustments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in construction management and engineering.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of surveying practices and project management principles.
  • Skill in project management and practical application of related tools and techniques.
  • Ability to prepare cost estimates and budgets for projects.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Engineer Intern (E.I.) or Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $82,576.00 - $108,596.80 per year.
