About the position

The Project Manager/Estimator at Schutte Excavating is responsible for preparing job estimates and managing various aspects of commercial and civil construction projects. This role involves communication with customers and vendors, budgeting, scheduling, and contract administration, ensuring projects are executed efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare job estimates for multiple commercial and civil construction projects.
  • Manage customer and vendor communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Oversee the bid process, including prioritizing tasks, answering questions, and managing deadlines.
  • Communicate with owners, architects, engineers, and general contractors to develop winning bids.
  • Set up awarded projects, including preconstruction meetings and coordination activities.
  • Work with Safety and field managers to prepare site safety and maintenance plans.
  • Establish, track, and manage project schedules in collaboration with Field Managers.
  • Review subcontractor and supplier quotes to finalize scope and pricing.
  • Prepare subcontracts and purchase orders with administrative support.
  • Ensure necessary permits are obtained for projects.
  • Coordinate construction activities with local officials to maintain positive relationships.

Requirements

  • High school diploma; additional schooling preferred but not required.
  • 4-6 years of experience estimating/managing construction projects.
  • Experience estimating projects in the $5 million range.
  • Knowledge of earthwork, roadways, utilities, concrete flatwork, and building construction.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills and ability to navigate multiple CM portals.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Commitment to quality work and willingness to improve in a project management role.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management.
