About the position

Ameriprise has an exciting new opportunity for a Project Manager to join our innovative, dynamic Human Resources project management office (PMO) team! This person will apply company and industry standard project management and change management tools and methodologies to develop a comprehensive plan and lead projects of moderate complexity through the project life cycle. This includes obtaining agreement and adoption of project objectives and deliverables by key sponsors, tracking deliverables, and ensuring progress toward completion on time and within budget. The Project Manager will be responsible for the delivery of small to medium scope projects that often represent cross-organizational initiatives. They will manage projects within the company's project delivery framework while applying project management and change management methodologies and tools. The role is accountable for project communications and change management, risk assessment and contingency planning, and escalation of critical issues to project sponsor/owner. The Project Manager will define the overall objectives and key deliverables for the project, identify and track key measures of success, and ensure the development of a comprehensive project plan that incorporates deliverables, accountabilities, and timelines, utilizing the company's project management system (Project Server) for maintaining and tracking project plan and status. Regular status reporting on plan progress will be provided, as defined by company standards. The Project Manager will provide leadership to project resources in a manner that ensures timely delivery on commitments/tasks in support of broader project deliverables. They will align cross-organizational resources to ensure successful delivery of the project, identify project resource requirements, and work with plan sponsors and the project management office/competency center to ensure adequately skilled resources are available to deliver on project commitments. The role requires effective collaboration with business partners, vendors, technology, and project management staff to develop the project agenda and ensure agreement/adoption of project objectives/deliverables by affected constituencies. Proactive project communication to the project owner is essential, as well as identifying cross-organizational interdependencies and ensuring appropriate integration into the project plan.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the delivery of small to medium scope projects that often represent cross-organizational initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 5 to 7 years proven experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of industry-standard project management and change management methodologies and tools
  • Proficiency in standard office and project management applications such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Project Workbench
  • Demonstrated experience in leading small to medium-scale projects to successful completion and implementation; demonstrates innovation
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships and effectively communicate and articulate information to others
  • Ability to develop risk mitigation plans in association with assigned projects
  • Ability to manage a $5M+ (annually) program of Annuity Enhancements with monthly releases
  • Ability to track status of and successfully deliver on 100+ enhancement projects per year
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment with 3+ days in the office per week
