About the position

The Project Manager I - Technical at ARUP Laboratories is responsible for facilitating and managing various projects within the Research and Innovation department. This role involves overseeing project definition, scope, deliverables, risk assessment, and status reporting. The Project Manager leads projects of varying complexity and ensures that technical projects are completed on time and within budget, while serving as a liaison between technical and non-technical departments.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates and manages ARUP projects as defined by the Project Management Policy.
  • Develops and monitors project timetables, deliverables, project communications, and progress reports.
  • Follows project management methodologies as defined by PMI and ARUP policies.
  • Creates and executes project work plans and revises as necessary to meet changing needs.
  • Maintains professional relationships with sponsors, stakeholders, team members, vendors, and consultants.
  • Gains a comprehensive technical understanding of business challenges and proposed solutions.
  • Serves as a liaison between technical and non-technical departments and vendors.
  • Identifies resources needed and assigns responsibilities for projects.
  • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of project management and uses problem-solving skills to keep projects on track.
  • Collaborates with software development teams on projects involving 3rd party product evaluation and implementation.
  • Facilitates and troubleshoots problems associated with developing complex systems.
  • Manages day-to-day operational aspects of projects and their scope.
  • Minimizes exposure and risk on projects.
  • Manages project budget, including tracking and reporting expenses and resource costs.
  • Analyzes project return on investment, profitability, revenue, and utilization.
  • Establishes and maintains communication with project sponsors and operational committees.
  • Reviews deliverables prepared by the team before passing to clients or stakeholders.
  • Presents analysis, recommendations, and project status to senior management and oversight committees.
  • Ensures proper processes are being followed and assists in establishing new processes.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Business or better with four years of experience managing complex, multi-departmental projects, or a Bachelor's Degree with two years of experience.
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of the technical and administrative aspects of all phases of project management as defined by PMI.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated technical acumen.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree or better in Business preferred.
  • Master's Degree or better in Business preferred.
  • Project Management Professional certification preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience preferred.
  • Experience in various software applications including MS Project, MS Office, and process modeling software preferred.
  • Experience managing projects in an Agile development environment preferred.
