About the position

Becht Engineering BT, Inc. supports our Building Technologies clientele by providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection (MEP&FP) and structural engineering, insurance/forensics investigations, project management and construction management services. Our engineering staff includes multi-disciplined licensed professionals, as well as LEED Accredited Professionals, Certified Energy Auditors and Certified Energy Managers. Our Project Management and construction management staff is comprised of licensed building inspectors, mechanical inspectors, certified building plan examiners, Registered Roofing/Exterior Wall Observers, and Reserve Specialists certified by the Community Association Institute. The position involves performing construction oversight and project management of our client's engineering and construction projects, as well as conducting surveys and inspections of buildings and related systems to document systems, elements, and/or components. The work encompasses construction management of various building structures, including residential complexes, condominiums, homeowner associations, commercial, educational, and industrial facilities. Project management tasks may include assisting with coordination of design activities from initial conception through project completion, preparation of bid documents, contractor evaluations, and oversight of contractors during work. Reserve studies involve field observation and quantification of items, with data input into proprietary software. The employee must exercise considerable tact, courtesy, and firmness in dealing with contractors, owners, and the general public.

Responsibilities

  • Performs construction and worksite inspections.
  • Conducts construction management and administration, including involvement in conceptual design, preparation of bid documents, contractor evaluation, cost estimating, project scheduling, and contractor supervision.
  • Prepares reports of inspection findings including photographs.
  • Attends and participates in industry marketing events to develop relationships with prospective clients and other business relationships.
  • Stores all project-related documents and correspondence within prescribed project folder/server locations.
  • Collects data and gathers information or documents.
  • Performs standard computations or analysis.
  • Assists with preparation of drawings and technical documents.
  • Observes construction activities and performs basic survey and field work.
  • Performs basic design tasks and assists with invasive inspections, preparation of bid packages, and material testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's/Associate's degree preferred, or commensurate construction experience. High School graduate at a minimum.
  • Residential and/or commercial building inspection experience preferred.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work well under supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid US Driver's License.
