About the position

The Project Manager I at Montgomery College is responsible for overseeing contract management for multiple concurrent projects, particularly in construction, with a focus on technical complexity and stakeholder interaction. This role involves planning, organizing, and evaluating the work of various teams and consultants to ensure projects align with college-wide goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Plan organizational, workforce, procurement, and management processes for multiple construction contracts valued at $20-$30 million annually.
  • Organize, manage, and evaluate the work of assigned staff, outside consultants, contractors, and vendors on major projects.
  • Prepare routine reports on project progress for stakeholders.
  • Manage work within established project budget and schedule constraints.
  • Prepare draft documents for project expenditure approvals from College, State, and local authorities.
  • Review and advise on facilities design and engineering solutions.
  • Provide advice on building, life safety, and accessibility codes, as well as sustainability practices.
  • Manage completion of construction contract documents and oversee preparation of technical specifications and drawings.
  • Represent the College in obtaining technical approvals from regulatory authorities and utility agencies.
  • Manage construction contract and FFE procurement actions, including preparing bid documents.
  • Plan, schedule, and supervise personnel moves, including managing moves of departmental furniture and IT personnel.
  • Provide oversight for contract close-out activities and assist with determining final payment release.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Interior Design, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible professional and supervisory experience managing new building construction and renovation projects.
  • Experience in the design and construction of higher education or similar environments.
  • Knowledge of planning construction administration management practices, including document, budget, and schedule management.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and knowledge of building, life safety, and accessibility codes.
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices, life-cycle analysis, building commissioning, and quality control practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Architect, Engineering, or other applicable professional certification.
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • NCIDQ certification.
  • Credentials issued by the US Green Building Council.
