About the position

As a Project Manager II (PM-II), you will play a crucial role in collaborating with Business Developers to identify customer issues and develop cost-effective engineering solutions for large commercial, industrial, and institutional sites. This position involves the design and engineering of energy-related products and services, primarily focusing on the customer side of the meter. Your expertise will be essential in areas such as low (480V) and medium voltage electric infrastructure, back-up power systems, power quality, and monitoring and control systems. In this role, you will combine detailed electrical engineering and design with project management throughout the design phase of assigned projects. You will be responsible for managing or assisting in managing all phases of project planning and execution, ensuring that all project success factors are met, including scope, schedule, cost, quality, environmental, safety, communications, security, and integration. Typically, you will be assigned to multiple projects with budgets ranging from $5M to $50M, which may have a low to moderate level of complexity impacting various levels within the company and external agencies. As a PM-II, you will serve as the unifying agent providing leadership, management, direction, coordination, and control of the overall project in accordance with established policies and procedures. This position is considered a leadership role, and meeting the minimum qualifications is essential for placement in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Contact large industrial, commercial, or institutional customers to identify issues and provide commercially available solutions within budget constraints.
  • Investigate, design, and develop innovative solutions to resolve customer issues, which may be implemented inside the customer's facility or on the Duke Energy side of the meter.
  • Provide pricing and sales support for projects.
  • Support construction from a design perspective and develop and implement commissioning plans for assigned projects.
  • Provide technical assistance with resolving operational issues as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain equipment specifications that meet standard designs and are acceptable to construction and maintenance teams.
  • Lead or assist the work group in interpreting and evaluating existing and proposed codes, processes, products, standards, regulations, requirements, and guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 5 years of related work experience, or a High School/GED degree with 9 years of related work experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • Desired: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering and 10 years of related work experience including project management.
  • Professional Engineer, Project Management Professional, Certified Energy Manager, or Licensed Electrical, Building, or Public Utility Contractor certification is preferred.
  • 5 years of commercial and industrial design engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse team to meet common goals and timelines.
  • Ability to innovate and provide options for complex customer issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of computerized analysis systems (ETAP, CYME, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of available commercial equipment and contractor networks.
  • Commercial project engineering experience in low (480V) and medium voltage electrical systems and backup power systems.
