About the position

The Project Manager III position within the Engineering & Project Management Division of the Public Utilities Department is responsible for managing and coordinating both capital and operational engineering projects. This role involves providing direction, guidance, and technical expertise to contractors and work crews, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and safety procedures, and overseeing project budgets and schedules. The Project Manager will also consult with division management, review project plans, and coordinate public education activities related to division projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate capital and operational engineering projects.
  • Provide direction and assistance to contractors and work crews.
  • Ensure compliance with codes, laws, and safety procedures.
  • Perform professional and technical work in support of business applications.
  • Consult with Division management to review project status and resolve issues.
  • Review plans, designs, and specifications for projects.
  • Prepare and administer project budgets and monitor expenditures.
  • Prepare project schedules and monitor progress against established timelines.
  • Coordinate bidding and contracting processes for services.
  • Oversee work performed by consultants and contractors.
  • Conduct inspections and maintain records for quality control.
  • Prepare executive summaries for presentation to officials.
  • Coordinate projects with other divisions and agencies.
  • Engage in public education activities related to division projects.
  • Participate in legal activities related to projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required.
  • Five (5) years of related experience.
  • Candidates without a degree should possess four (4) additional years of related experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) or obtain one within six (6) months of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
