About the position

The Project Manager at Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is responsible for overseeing and facilitating major IT programs, ensuring successful execution of business systems initiatives. This role involves planning, tracking project status, managing risks, and engaging with team members to drive projects forward while maintaining a focus on delivery and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of projects with a high degree of complexity and confidentiality.
  • Be accountable for project results along with the sponsor.
  • Develop and maintain key project documents including project charter, scope, detailed work plans, timeline, issue log, status reports, Gantt charts, budgets, meeting agendas, and meeting minutes.
  • Actively engage with project team members to solicit their ideas, confirm expectations, and communicate commitments.
  • Act as a mediator and facilitate dialogue when the project hits roadblocks.
  • Effectively manage project scope by ensuring changes are clearly defined, discussed, agreed to, and documented.
  • Prepare for, facilitate, document, and actively follow up on action items from project meetings.
  • Track and report on project milestones, solicit status from team members, and provide a consolidated view of project status, schedule, risks, and issues.
  • Drive post-implementation assessment and lessons learned.
  • Organize project deliverables and assets for future reuse.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three to five years' experience leading and managing complex systems projects.
  • Experienced in leading Waterfall and Agile software delivery models.
  • Insurance business and Document Management & Workflow Systems experience is a plus.
  • Proven ability to engage with senior management to elicit cooperation and hold them accountable.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task while balancing diverse priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, adept at working in a matrix environment.
  • Adept at rapidly responding to changes in priorities and deadlines.

  • Experience in the insurance industry.
