About the position

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a senior project manager (PM4) with extensive medical project management experience to lead major Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects valued over $10 million. This role involves providing professional project management and leadership for complex higher education, healthcare, and research projects, overseeing a team of 2-5 project managers, and ensuring project goals are met while maintaining budget and schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex projects involving planning, design, and execution of major higher education capital projects.
  • Manage project budget, schedule, and procurement of design and construction services.
  • Assist Project Managers in driving progress of consultants to achieve expected functionality.
  • Facilitate timely decisions by campus representatives and report progress and issues impacting project goals to stakeholders.
  • Review and approve design and construction contracts, changes, and bid documents.
  • Direct and provide support to Project Team and Construction Administrators during construction activities.
  • Stay current in applicable Codes and Regulations for design and construction.
  • Support pre-project planning activities, including Capital Improvement Plan preparation.
  • Participate in or lead process improvement initiatives as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • 10 or more years of experience in project management of design and construction activities for renovations and new construction.
  • 3 or more years of experience managing capital projects with a Total Project Cost of $10M or more.
  • Experience managing design and construction for projects in the medical/healthcare industry as the owner's representative.
  • Working knowledge of contract documents and experience negotiating construction contracts.
  • Knowledge of life, safety, and building codes including NFPA101, IBC, and ADA.
  • Experience using Excel, Microsoft Word, and scheduling software such as MS Project.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Licensed Architect or Engineer in Texas or eligible for reciprocity.
  • LEED‐AP credentials.
  • Experience managing design and construction for projects in a higher education setting.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
