About the position

The Project Manager (Minor) position within the General Services Department is responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of multiple concurrent design and construction projects. This role involves managing various facility and building systems projects for different client departments, ensuring effective communication and coordination throughout all project phases, from programming to construction administration. The Project Manager will work on projects that include the repair, rehabilitation, or alteration of various municipal facilities such as fire and police stations, libraries, and community centers.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the budget, schedule, and scope of work for projects.
  • Coordinate and conduct on-site walkthroughs to develop scope of work and assess proposals from consultants and contractors.
  • Read, interpret, and review construction drawings to verify scope of work and constructability.
  • Oversee construction and manage internal and external stakeholders such as IT, Security Management, and Property Management.
  • Evaluate proposals using RS Means Facility Construction cost data and negotiate discrepancies with contractors.
  • Ensure overall project quality controls and compliance with contract obligations.
  • Track payments to ensure timely processing.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with client departments and contractor representatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Project Management, or a closely related field.
  • Four years of experience in construction, construction inspection, design, landscape design, geotechnical, environmental, or a closely related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or Project Management is preferred.
  • Experience with project management in the design and construction/renovation of vertical buildings.
  • Prior experience in managing ground-up construction or major renovations of vertical projects.
