About the position

The Project Manager for Networking & Cybersecurity at USC's Information Sciences Institute (ISI) is responsible for overseeing multiple projects within the Networking & Cybersecurity Division. This role involves managing all phases of large project grants, providing leadership for day-to-day operations, and ensuring alignment with departmental goals. The Project Manager will participate in project planning, data management, and reporting, while also developing key performance indicators and managing project budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Assist a principal investigator in managing all phases of large project grants and subcontracts.
  • Provide leadership and direction for day-to-day project operations and administrative activities.
  • Participate in the planning, design, and development of project protocols, data acquisition, and management.
  • Conduct performance management analysis to evaluate investment outcomes.
  • Articulate vision and roadmap to diverse groups including project teams and stakeholders.
  • Attend and lead regular status meetings to monitor project updates and communicate risks.
  • Deliver customized project/portfolio reports to stakeholders.
  • Manage expectations through business cases and risk assessments.
  • Develop key performance indicators in partnership with stakeholders and track metrics.
  • Diagnose project/program challenges and design rational solutions.
  • Identify and triage project risks, escalating to leadership as appropriate.
  • Maintain currency with industry knowledge and project management methodologies.
  • Promote an inclusive environment that upholds principles of the USC Code of Ethics.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, authorizing expenditures and monitoring compliance.
  • Prepare financial reports and direct ongoing purchasing activities.
  • Identify funding sources and opportunities, interfacing with funding agencies.
  • Manage proposal development with the technical team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, psychology, communications, or a related field.
  • Five years of experience in project management and business administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage concurrent projects and lead mid-sized projects.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including MS Project and Visio.
  • Experience with project portfolio management tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Project Management or related field.
  • Seven years of project management experience in a research and development environment.
  • Certified Associate in Project Management, Project Management Professional, or similar certifications.
  • Experience in higher education or finance.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
  • Knowledge of process mapping tools and techniques.
  • Demonstrated data-driven mindset for decision-making.
