About the position

The Project Manager for Protection and Control Engineering at Sargent & Lundy is responsible for leading project teams in the design, modification, and analysis of high voltage substations. This role involves managing various aspects of project execution, ensuring high-quality deliverables, timely performance, and adherence to budget constraints. The Project Manager will coordinate with multiple stakeholders, oversee detailed design phases, and support business development efforts while mentoring team members.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project teams consisting of engineers, designers, estimators, and scheduling professionals.
  • Direct the team lead in coordinating detailed design phases for electrical engineering work.
  • Coordinate and manage work performed by other stakeholders such as civil, structural, and transmission lines.
  • Ensure projects are completed with high quality, on time, and within budget.
  • Identify and track potential out of scope work and develop scope changes for client approval.
  • Coordinate systems design activities to comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
  • Prepare reports and studies presenting technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Perform reviews of work including calculations, drawings, reports, and specifications.
  • Communicate directly with clients for project and account support.
  • Support business development opportunities with existing and potential clients.
  • Develop and mentor team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 7+ years of experience in project management of utility transmission, substation, or energy projects.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEC, IEEE, and ANSI.
  • Experience in design engineering and/or management of high voltage utility projects.
  • Proficiency in preparing scopes of work, conceptual layouts, and specifications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in cost allocation, estimating, and risk assessment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced management/business degree or certification.
  • PE license.
  • PMP Certification.
  • Construction and start-up experience.
  • Commissioning experience.
