About the position

AECOM is seeking a Project Manager to be based in Oakland, CA, who will lead the execution of significant rail and transit project delivery. This role requires demonstrated expertise in managing and preparing transportation project teams, ensuring that all project deliverables meet the highest standards through interdisciplinary reviews. The Project Manager will perform quality control reviews of design calculations and drawings, prepare technical specification sections, and provide input to the development of engineering budgets and schedules to meet project requirements. Establishing relationships with local agencies and acting as a visible leader and trusted advisor to clients is essential, as is promoting AECOM's values both internally and externally. The Project Manager will work closely with external contractors and consultants, as well as AECOM's other divisions and regions, to interact directly with major clients both locally and globally. Responsibilities include managing staff and tasks associated with rail and transit contracts, supporting various rail professional services pursuits related to major rail capital programs, and managing multidiscipline teams to meet scope, schedule, and budget on multi-million dollar tasks or projects. The role also involves leading meetings with clients and stakeholders, mentoring junior to mid-level staff, and being responsible for the entire project lifecycle from planning, design, procurement, construction, integration, commissioning, and closeout. Additionally, the Project Manager will develop and maintain the project execution plan for assigned projects, investigate, negotiate, and resolve project issues, ensuring that all aspects of the project are aligned with client expectations and AECOM's standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead execution of significant rail/transit project delivery.
  • Manage and prepare transportation project teams.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Perform quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
  • Prepare technical specification sections.

Requirements

  • BA/BS + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years of leadership.
  • BS in Civil Engineering or a related field (preferred).
  • 15+ years of experience in organizational development and leadership; client service management; leading delivery of program management, design, and/or construction management services for large-scale transportation/transit clients and/or projects (preferred).
  • 5 years of experience in managing the delivery of large complex rail transit projects (preferred).
  • Experience must include continuous design management responsibility, including management of design services during construction.
  • Ability to interface with state and local jurisdictions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant software programs.
  • PE in the state of California or ability to obtain registration within 6 months.
  • Ability to create grading plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads or OpenRail.
  • Familiarity with plan/profile creation for rail projects.
  • Experience in tracking and managing task budgets and schedules.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills requiring client interaction.
  • Provide in-depth Quality Control and Quality Assurance for design/project management/program management.
  • Ability to analyze and inspire innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • High level of organizational ability, capable of pivoting and re-prioritizing to meet changing project needs and deadlines.
