About the position
The Senior Project Manager at Bernhard is responsible for overseeing all aspects of construction projects, particularly in the HVAC, Plumbing, and Medical Gas sectors. This role focuses on managing project costs, field labor, and subcontractors to ensure safe, timely, and budget-compliant project completion. The position emphasizes the importance of maintaining strong customer relations and fostering a collaborative work environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage the installation of HVAC, Plumbing, and Medical Gas systems to meet code requirements, budget, and timelines.
- Maintain knowledge of safety protocols in occupied healthcare facilities, including infection control measures.
- Evaluate estimates and establish job costing systems with labor, material, and subcontract cost codes.
- Negotiate and prepare vendor and subcontractor purchase orders, ensuring compliance with contract specifications.
- Conduct monthly reports and cost reviews to identify deviations from plans and keep stakeholders informed.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and internal customers.
- Evaluate and develop field personnel, including workers, foremen, and superintendents.
- Ensure a safe work environment through safety meetings, incident investigations, and employee involvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 10+ years of Project Management experience with a mechanical subcontractor in commercial HVAC and Plumbing.
- Extensive experience in large heavy commercial construction projects valued at $5 million or more.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of the industry and competitors.
- Excellent multitasking skills and flexibility to perform duties outside the scope of work when necessary.
