About the position

The Project Manager - Substation Engineering role at Sargent & Lundy involves managing project teams responsible for the design, modification, and analysis of high voltage substations. The position requires overseeing various engineering disciplines, ensuring project quality, timely completion, and adherence to budget constraints. The role also includes client communication, business development support, and mentoring team members, with a hybrid work arrangement allowing for remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project teams consisting of engineers, designers, estimators, and scheduling professionals.
  • Direct the team lead in coordinating detailed design phases for electrical engineering work.
  • Coordinate and manage work performed by stakeholders such as civil, structural, and transmission lines.
  • Ensure projects are completed with high quality, on time, and within budget.
  • Identify and track potential out of scope work and develop scope changes for client approval.
  • Coordinate systems design activities to comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
  • Prepare reports and studies presenting technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Perform reviews of work including calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Communicate directly with clients for project and account support.
  • Support business development opportunities with existing and potential clients.
  • Develop and mentor team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Seven or more years of experience in design engineering and/or management of high voltage utility projects.
  • Specific experience in Project Management of Utility Transmission, Substation, or Energy Projects.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEC, IEEE, and ANSI.
  • Experience in preparation, oversight, or management of scopes of work and conceptual layouts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in writing proposals and cost allocation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced management/business degree or certification.
  • PE license.
  • PMP Certification.
  • Construction and start-up experience.
  • Commissioning experience.
