About the position

The Project Manager position for the City of Chattanooga is responsible for managing a portfolio of projects and initiatives that engage various city departments to address operational challenges and achieve strategic goals. This role involves coordinating activities with city departments, outside agencies, and the public, while ensuring effective communication and project delivery within budget and time constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of projects and initiatives across city departments.
  • Coordinate activities with city departments, outside agencies, and the public.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to City Departments, City Council, and the general public.
  • Conduct project planning and development, including research and budget preparation.
  • Lead major projects from conceptual design to implementation, ensuring goals are met within budget and time constraints.
  • Evaluate processes to identify opportunities for streamlining and automation, including the use of AI.
  • Incorporate change management principles to ensure project adoption post-implementation.
  • Indirectly oversee project team members to ensure timely and satisfactory completion of work assignments.
  • Develop RFPs/RFQs and verify contract expenditures and compliance.
  • Research and draft technical reports, project plans, and status reports.
  • Facilitate project team meetings and public hearings for community engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Public or Business Administration or a technical/engineering field.
  • Four years of experience in project management and/or change management.
  • Project Management certification preferred.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service focus and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in using a computer and project management tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with budgeting and financial management.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal program areas.
  • Familiarity with public sector project management.
