About the position

The Project/Mechanical Engineer Internship at Waupaca Foundry offers students the opportunity to apply engineering principles in a practical setting while supporting the company's goals in safety, quality, delivery, and financial performance. Interns will engage in design work, project implementation, and collaboration with various teams to enhance foundry operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in design of foundry components/equipment and support systems utilizing standard engineering principles and practices.
  • Generate detailed mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic drawings for systems and equipment.
  • Design, generate CAD drawings, and assist in the assembly of equipment.
  • Assist with the proper operation of equipment.
  • Direct contact with plant maintenance, production, and engineering teams.
  • Conduct meetings and gather input from stakeholders.
  • Support company project crews and coordinate with outside contractors.
  • Obtain accurate information and relay it to others in the form of drawings or work scope information.
  • Assist in incorporating the best available safety and ergonomic features into all design work.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • CAD/3D modeling skills, especially knowledge of Autodesk Inventor.
  • Knowledge of mechanical components such as cylinders, motors, bearings, etc.
  • Understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Understanding of engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of safety policies/procedures for all departments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of 1 completed year in related field (preferred).
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Possess necessary computer skills, CAD, spreadsheet, word processor.
  • Demonstrate a strong mechanical drafting knowledge to accurately communicate design intent.
  • Ability to improve processes through machine improvement and automation.
