About the position

The Project Policy Analyst 3 position at the College of Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, serves as a primary expert and liaison for the Dean's Office regarding Graduate Student Researchers (GSR) and their appointments. This role involves processing GSR Fellow/Trainee appointments, liaising between departments and the Dean's Office, and conducting policy analysis related to UAW contracts. The position is a full-time, three-year contract role focused on ensuring compliance with policies and providing support to faculty and departments.

Responsibilities

  • Process up to 200 GSR Fellows/Trainees annually, serving as the primary point person for appointments.
  • Liaise with department contacts, faculty, and Research Administrators to collect chartstring information for fellows.
  • Maintain and update ERSO smartsheet and confirm accuracy of department/program Fellow/Trainee lists.
  • Audit and resolve individual GSR Fellow/Trainee pay issues and provide troubleshooting support for faculty and departments.
  • Communicate regularly with department leads on challenges and concerns, and report these to the Dean's Office.
  • Lead monthly meetings with department leads to present updates and gather feedback.
  • Analyze issues faced by multiple departments and report findings to the Dean's Office and ERSO.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of UAW contract details and university policies regarding GSR appointments.
  • Attend relevant trainings and workshops, summarizing key information for dissemination to departments.
  • Serve on campus committees and relay pertinent information in partnership with ERSO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.
  • Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific computer application programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills for data analysis and proposal preparation.
  • Ability to multi-task under demanding timeframes.
  • Strong policy analysis techniques.
