About the position

The Project Safety Coordinator at Western Partitions, Inc. (WPI) plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and healthful workplace while administering the WPI Safety Program. This position is designed to foster a trusting and team-oriented environment for all workers involved in various construction projects. The coordinator is responsible for understanding and complying with all WPI policies, procedures, and corporate safety programs, ensuring 100% compliance with WPI Safety Policies and Procedures. As the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) contact for the project, the coordinator will facilitate safety and equipment training, maintain training records, and oversee the incident investigation process to ensure root-cause identification and corrective action implementation. In addition to these responsibilities, the Project Safety Coordinator will develop positive relationships with office staff, project management, general contractors, subcontractors, and trade workers to foster an injury-free environment. The role involves implementing site-specific health and safety plans, assisting project forepersons in identifying and mitigating high-risk activities, and developing, reviewing, and approving job hazard analyses and pre-task plans. The coordinator will also perform and document project safety audits, ensuring compliance with EHS programs and federal, state, and local regulations. Proactive engagement with General Contractor (GC) Safety Managers is essential to improve safety cultures across both companies. The coordinator will also facilitate onsite drug and alcohol testing programs and participate in all required meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and healthful workplace and administer the WPI Safety Program.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with WPI Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Act as the EHS contact for the project.
  • Facilitate safety and equipment training and maintain training records.
  • Facilitate the incident investigation process for root-cause identification and corrective action implementation.
  • Develop positive relationships with office staff, project management, general contractors, subcontractors, and trade workers to foster an injury-free environment.
  • Implement the site-specific health and safety plan.
  • Assist project forepersons in identifying and mitigating high-risk activities.
  • Develop, review, and approve job hazard analyses and pre-task plans.
  • Perform and document project safety audits and resolve action items noted.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS Program, federal, state, and local regulations on the job site.
  • Facilitate implementation of work control permits and evaluation processes.
  • Meet with GC Safety Managers to improve safety cultures.
  • Facilitate onsite drug and alcohol testing programs.
  • Participate in all required meetings.

Requirements

  • Must possess one of the following Board of Certified Safety Professionals designations: CST, CHST, OHST, STS-C, ASP.
  • Minimum of three years of qualified project safety experience on similarly sized projects with similar type construction.
  • Thorough understanding of EHS programs, practices, and regulations.
  • Ability to prioritize personal workload and recognize priority conflicts.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record are required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask, think critically, and problem-solve.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and follow through on assignments.
  • Strong organizational and computer use skills.
  • High level of competency to read/write/speak English and interpret safety documentation.
