About the position

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) is seeking a Project Systems Engineer to join our team. This position plays a crucial role in the development, fabrication, testing, integration, and maintenance of new or existing systems on GA-ASI's Unmanned Air Systems (UAS). Under general supervision with limited review, the Project Systems Engineer will be responsible for determining and developing effective approaches for resolving a wide range of difficult engineering problems. Assignments will be outlined in terms of overall objectives and anticipated results, with work reviewed at milestones or upon completion to ensure adequacy in meeting objectives. The engineer will document findings, communicate results to the engineering staff, and make technical presentations as required. Additionally, this role may involve coordinating segments of specific projects and maintaining frequent inter-organization and customer contact on challenging technical issues. The engineer will also provide direction to design or technical staff and may mentor less experienced professionals. The Project Systems Engineer will be tasked with providing systems engineering and technical coordination throughout the lifecycle of projects. This includes determining technical objectives for solutions to engineering problems, performing system analysis, generating requirements, and developing system architecture and designs. The engineer will lead a team of diverse, cross-functional staff, support the development of test plans, and manage the integration, verification, and validation of systems through flight tests. Troubleshooting conflicting design/development requirements and project coordination difficulties will also be part of the role, as well as coordinating and interfacing with customers, contractors, and engineering groups assigned to projects. The engineer will develop program plans, estimates, and schedules, executing programs in accordance with those plans, and will summarize and report project status regularly while effectively documenting and communicating any delays or issues with team members. Furthermore, the engineer will provide support for proposals and white papers and represent the organization at technical reviews, meetings, and system-level integrations.
