About the position
The Project Technical Specialist 2 will support the Power and Energy Engineering - Substation Group at GAI Consultants, focusing on structural engineering tasks for utility clients. This role involves executing various engineering tasks, including design, analysis, and project management, with the flexibility to work remotely or in a hybrid setting.
Responsibilities
- Design slab and deep foundations for substation equipment and line structures.
- Perform structural analysis/design of steel, concrete, and masonry structures for substation equipment and buildings.
- Design mat foundations for transformers, including spread footings, drilled piers, and steel piles.
- Conduct rigid bus design and calculations.
- Prepare drawings and specifications per engineering standards and applicable codes, including ACI and AISC standards.
- Develop proposals including scope and budget, and coordinate with interdisciplinary teams.
- Draft site reports, design narratives, meeting minutes, and project memorandums.
- Collaborate with other structural engineers for QA/QC peer reviews and mentorship.
- Conduct independent structural field condition assessments.
- Provide bid and construction phase services, including responding to bidder questions and reviewing submittals.
- Direct and oversee engineering and drafting staff on a project basis.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field preferred.
- Minimum 12 years of experience with structural or heavy industrial structure design.
- Experience with STAAD, RISA, and other related engineering software.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, and other drafting software.
