About the position

H2M architects + engineers is seeking a full or part-time Project Traffic Engineer for their Melville, NY office. This hybrid position involves the preparation and management of traffic, parking, and master planning studies, focusing on traffic design and related infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will collaborate on exciting traffic and transportation projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of traffic impact and parking studies, including reviewing site plans for traffic safety issues and parking facilities for local zoning conformance.
  • Coordinate and perform planning, analysis, design, and permitting tasks for traffic/transportation engineering, land development, and master planning projects.
  • Analyze signals, signing, and pavement markings.
  • Deliver on-time tasks/projects within specified guidelines and schedules, completing progress reports as necessary.
  • Draft and prepare traffic impact reports.
  • Manage internal and external relationships, including interaction and problem-solving with clients, contractors, and other project team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering is required.
  • A New York State Professional Engineering License is required.
  • Must have 6 years of traffic engineering experience, including road, intersection, and overall traffic infrastructure design.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD is essential.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), Synchro, MUTCD, ITE Traffic Engineering Handbook, ITE Parking Generation, ITE Trip Generation, and AASHTO.
  • Strong knowledge of NYSDOT Highway Design Manual.
  • Ability to read and comprehend roadway plans and contracts.
  • Ability to work independently and prepare expert reports summarizing findings using accepted engineering principles.
  • Traffic signal design experience is highly desirable.
  • Nassau-Suffolk County experience is a plus.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
