About the position
The Corrections Sergeant supervises employees on assigned shifts within a correctional facility, ensuring the safety and security of inmates and staff. This role involves conducting training, monitoring inmate activities, and responding to emergencies, while also preparing reports and coordinating various operations within the facility.
Responsibilities
- Supervises employees on an assigned shift within specific units or floors of a correctional facility.
- Conducts employee roll call meetings and assigns employees to work areas.
- Monitors security operations to assure the safety of inmates and employees.
- Coordinates inmate movement, meals, visitation, and emergency situations.
- Provides technical assistance and instruction to subordinates regarding facility operations and procedures.
- Develops and schedules training programs and conducts employee training sessions.
- Conducts home or work site visits to assist subordinates in unusual or emergency situations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience as a Corrections Officer with the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections (LMDC).
- Must be eligible for certification as a State Peace Officer.
- Must complete forty (40) hours of annual in-service training.
