Prop Shop Supervisor (CYF - 10mths - Instructional Support Tech, SL-3)

About the position

The Prop Shop Supervisor at Purchase College's Conservatory of Theatre Arts is responsible for overseeing the Prop Shop's activities, ensuring that the academic programs and student training are effectively supported. This role involves managing resources, training students, and maintaining high standards of construction quality. The supervisor will also teach a section of Props Construction I and may have additional teaching opportunities for extra pay.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Prop Shop activities and manage resources including materials, tools, and stock.
• Train, advise, and provide guidance to students in props leadership positions and new students.
• Ensure projects move through the shops in a timely, safe, and efficient manner.
• Maintain high standards of construction quality and shop safety.
• Teach one section of Props Construction I, typically in the fall.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• 3 years of experience working in a professional prop shop.
• Experience in managing prop shop operations and stock management.
• Depth of knowledge in props construction and related techniques.
• Knowledge of historical periods of furniture and décor.
• Ability to maintain high standards for shop safety and project quality.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working in an academic theatre program.
• Expertise in woodworking, metalwork, sculpture, and carving.
• Knowledge of budgeting and estimating for projects.
• Understanding of safe storage and use of theatrical weapons.
