About the position

The Controller oversees the strategic development and implementation of development and accounting projects and initiatives at Navy Yard Charleston, a joint venture redevelopment of the historic Charleston Navy Base. Located in an Opportunity Zone, the development also includes individual historic tax credit projects. This position provides leadership to Navy Yard Charleston and is recognized as the subject matter expert in their field. The Controller will perform as the subject matter expert in the development of objectives, processes, and best practices for the Navy Yard Charleston in coordination with Jamestown Fund and Corporate Accounting teams. This role is critical in preparing investor draw requests and forecasts, managing and forecasting development entity cash and cash flows, and coordinating the development entity annual budgets while updating MRI. Additionally, the Controller will prepare and review combined quarterly forecasts, review and approve all wire transfers and corporate check requests, and prepare year-end audited financial statements while working with auditors on the audit. The position also involves managing the investor distribution check process, maintaining current records for entities and corporate level books, reviewing all development general ledgers, and acting as a signer on all bank accounts. The Controller will administer MRI Accounting software and perform as a subject matter expert in software projects and upgrades, oversee the Accounts Payable process, and manage the performance review process for department employees.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • More than seven years of related accounting experience or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Experience with MRI Software and Nexus preferred.
  • Knowledge of financial analysis and development accounting.
  • Experience in Real Estate, particularly with Opportunity Zones preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
