About the position

As the Property Accounting Manager, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the accounting functions for a diverse portfolio of assets, with a primary focus on commercial properties. This position requires a strong leader who can manage and mentor a team of five property accountants and one accounts receivable bookkeeper. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, which includes the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Your expertise will be essential in developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures that enhance both efficiency and accuracy within the department. In this role, you will coordinate closely with property managers and other departments to ensure seamless financial operations across the organization. You will also prepare and review budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses to support strategic decision-making. Compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulations is paramount, and you will assist in the preparation of tax returns and audits to ensure adherence to these standards. Your leadership will be instrumental in fostering a collaborative environment that promotes professional growth and development among your team members.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the accounting functions for a mixed portfolio of assets, primarily commercial properties.
  • Manage and mentor a team of 5 property accountants and 1 AR bookkeeper.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Coordinate with property managers and other departments to ensure seamless financial operations.
  • Prepare and review budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of tax returns and audits.

Requirements

  • Preferably a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in property accounting, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Yardi.
