About the position

The Property and A&H Senior Reserving Actuarial Analyst at AXIS Capital plays a crucial role in the actuarial reserving team, focusing on quarterly reserving analyses for both insurance and reinsurance business. This position acts as a key support to the Property and A&H Product Line lead, significantly influencing the quarterly reserving positions and annual profitability of the organization. The role involves collaboration with various departments and requires strong analytical skills to assess and present reserve estimates and trends.

Responsibilities

  • Sole responsibility for certain classes of business within the Property and A&H team, including decision making on analysis and senior management presentations.
  • Provide analyses for quarterly reserving for the Property and A&H segments on both UY basis and GAP basis, gross and net of reinsurance.
  • Support the selection of initial expected loss ratios by evaluating trend and rate change experience, working closely with pricing actuaries.
  • Assist with projections for the subsequent year by conducting deep dive analyses.
  • Perform actual versus expected analyses, explaining large movements during the quarter.
  • Present quarterly underwriting year and accident year exhibits to divisional underwriting units.
  • Lead meetings with other departments such as Claims, Finance, and Operations.
  • Analyze reserve estimates for large Catastrophe events in collaboration with the Claims team and Catastrophe coordinator.
  • Participate in ad-hoc reserve and profitability studies on specific lines of business, analyzing underwriting and claim trends, shifts in business mix, and changes in limits or retentions.
  • Partner with Property and A&H Pricing and Underwriting counterparts to provide insights and understand results better.
  • Assist with the analysis of new business opportunities and expansion of current business as needed.
  • Peer review work from more junior members of the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Maths, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Business, Risk Management, or a similar field demonstrating quantitative analysis skills.
  • Studying to become an actuary or Fully Qualified (FIA/ACAS/Other Actuarial bodies).
  • Good PC skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel, SQL, and ResQ.
  • Ability to identify trends quickly and apply creative thinking to implement changes within the Reserving processes.
  • Strong communication skills, adaptable to different audiences.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work during busy Reserving periods.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in A&H/Property reserving and/or pricing is preferable, but not essential.
