About the position

The Property and Evidence Specialist I is a civilian role responsible for the care, custody, and control of evidence and found property related to crimes or suspected crimes. This position involves the proper handling and storage of various types of evidence, including hazardous materials, and ensuring compliance with federal and state guidelines for evidence management.

Responsibilities

  • Care, custody, and control of evidence and found property.
  • Proper handling and storage of evidence, including firearms and drugs.
  • Delivery of hazardous materials to labs or courtrooms as needed.
  • Ensure hazardous materials are handled, identified, contained, stored, transported, tested, and disposed of legally.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in law enforcement or evidence procedure and warehouse logistics or management preferred.
  • Must obtain certification within two years of employment through PEAF or IAPE.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License required.
  • Unescorted CJIS clearance authorized by FDLE is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in law enforcement or evidence management.
  • Certification in property evidence management.
