About the position

The Lincoln County Assessor's Office is seeking a Property Appraiser Trainee to join their team. This position involves training under the supervision of experienced appraisal staff and following a structured continuing education program aimed at obtaining registration as a Property Appraiser by the State of Oregon within one year. The trainee will assist in the appraisal of both urban and rural residential properties and provide public service related to property assessment information.

Responsibilities

  • Train and study appraisal concepts, functions, and procedures with supervisor and appraisal staff.
  • Study independently using the Appraiser Trainee course and study materials.
  • Gain necessary skills and knowledge to take the certification test.
  • Assist in new construction appraisal and research building permits and plans.
  • Create and maintain accurate building sketches.
  • Assist in the reappraisal of residential properties and maintain accurate property data inventory.
  • Assist in processing Measure 50 exception forms for new, damaged, or omitted property.
  • Record and enter new property or reappraisal data in the CAMA system.
  • Provide public service by answering basic questions and providing information on property valuation and the Oregon Property Tax system.
  • Assist with preparation of appeal/market reports and compilation of appeal-related exhibits and correspondence.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • No prior experience necessary, but any combination of experience or education equivalent to two years in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Certification as a Registered Appraiser by the Oregon Department of Revenue is required within one year of hire.
  • Oregon Driver's License required within 30 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates degree or higher in related coursework such as property appraisal, real estate technology, engineering, or business administration preferred.
  • 1-2 years' experience in an Oregon County Office preferred.
