About the position

We seek a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Claims Representative to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for processing and managing property and casualty claims, ensuring accuracy in documentation, and providing exceptional service to Ohio counties. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology and construction/building terminology, and the ability to navigate complex claims processes efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Review claims for coverage under established policies.
• Investigate claims, establish reserves and approve or deny claims as required by policies.
• Review progress reports from defense counsel regarding litigation.
• Authorize settlement within authority.
• Contact Claims Supervisor regarding larger or more complex claims.
• Respond to questions regarding coverage from member counties.
• Draft reports and claims related correspondence.
• Inspect damaged buildings and visit accident scenes.
• Meet with commissioners, commissioners' staff, prosecutors and other elected officials, and defense and plaintiff counsel for resolution of claims and litigation.

Requirements

• Valid Ohio Driver's License and ability to meet insurance requirements.
• Knowledge of and ability to use insurance principles and practices.
• Ability to manage multiple claims simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
• Ability to read and interpret insurance coverage agreements.
• Ability to calculate and set reserves for claims.
• Ability to negotiate regarding claims settlements.
• Ability to communicate with clients regarding coverage questions.
• Excellent organizational skills with a focus on accuracy in data entry and record keeping.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with clients and providers.
• Knowledge of and ability to use insurance claims and other business-related software applications.
• 3-5 years experience in a claims processing role or similar position is preferred.
• Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field or similar work experience.
