The Technical Lead Propulsion/Drives Controls Engineer will play a pivotal role in the development, implementation, and validation of control systems for electric drive off-highway vehicles. This position is crucial for ensuring that propulsion systems effectively manage electrical power inputs from various sources, including alternators, catenary systems, and batteries, which are essential for driving traction and auxiliary inverters. The successful candidate will work on Mining Off-Highway Vehicles (OHVs) with payload capacities ranging from 100 to 400 tons, requiring a deep understanding of power electronics and control theory. The role involves interfacing the propulsion control system with other onboard and offboard vehicle systems, necessitating strong skills in simulation and modeling of dynamic vehicle machinery. Proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink is required, as these tools will be used to manage the motion of motors and engines effectively. The Lead Controls Engineer will also be responsible for documenting system requirements and ensuring that design evaluations adhere to sound engineering principles and business standards. In addition to technical responsibilities, the position requires coordination of subsystem validation and reporting for testing conducted both internally and at third-party sites. The engineer will support the factory build of prototype and standard production systems, monitor project status, and communicate significant developments and business issues. Periodic travel for durations of 2 to 3 weeks may be necessary to conduct testing or investigate issues, making flexibility and adaptability key traits for this role.
