About the position

Anduril Industries is seeking a Propulsion Design Engineer to join our Propulsion Development team in Costa Mesa, California. This role is pivotal in the design and optimization of advanced propulsion systems that align with our ambitious and innovative objectives. As a Propulsion Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the development and qualification of air-breathing propulsion systems and/or electric vehicle (EV) systems, as well as providing support for flight testing as necessary. Your expertise will contribute to the transformation of military capabilities through cutting-edge technology. In this position, you will take ownership of the design of engine components from the conceptual phase through to production. You will drive prototype testing and design experiments aimed at optimizing designs before their release. Additionally, you will be responsible for creating architectural layouts and conducting design trade studies for future products. A key part of your role will involve collecting, organizing, and post-processing test data to generate comprehensive test reports that include conclusions and recommendations for further work. You will also lead and participate in continuous improvement activities, focusing on process and efficiency improvements, as well as the development of data analysis techniques. This position requires a strong foundation in mechanical or aerospace engineering, with a focus on propulsion systems. You will work closely with a team of engineers and contribute to the advancement of Anduril's mission to enhance military capabilities through innovative technology.

Responsibilities

  • Own design of engine components from conceptual phase into production.
  • Drive prototype testing and design of experiments to optimize designs prior to release.
  • Own architectural layouts and design trade studies for future products.
  • Collect, organize, and post-process test data to generate test reports with conclusions and recommendations for further work.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement activities, including process improvement, efficiency improvement, and development of data analysis techniques.

Requirements

  • BS or higher degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Working knowledge of electric motor (IPM, SPM) mechanical design.
  • Experience designing mechanical parts (CAD).
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods (machining, sheet metal, composites, 3D printing, injection molding, etc.).
  • Proficient in mechanical drawings, ASME Y14.5 GD&T.
  • Experience procuring parts and working in a machine shop. Working knowledge of machine safety and shop safety protocols.
  • U.S. Person status is required as this position needs to access export-controlled data.

  • Rotating components - turbines, compressors, bearings, shafts, seals, etc.
