About the position

Anduril Industries is seeking a Propulsion eMachine Design Engineer to join our Propulsion Development team. This role is pivotal in the design and optimization of advanced propulsion systems that align with our ambitious and innovative objectives. As a Propulsion eMachine Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the comprehensive mechanical design of critical components such as stators, rotors, speed sensing, and interconnect assemblies, guiding these elements from the conceptual phase through to production. Your expertise will be essential in driving advancements in winding and magnet technologies, steel stamping, stack construction, insulation systems, thermal sensing, and cooling technologies. In this position, you will focus heavily on ensuring that designs are manufacturable and assembly-friendly at production rates. You will evaluate various cooling solutions tailored to specific applications and develop durability test profiles based on vehicle usage data. Additionally, you will lead and engage in continuous improvement initiatives, which include enhancing processes, improving efficiency, and developing data analysis techniques to support our engineering goals. Your contributions will directly impact the effectiveness and reliability of our propulsion systems, which are integral to the advanced military capabilities we aim to deliver.

Responsibilities

  • Own detailed mechanical design of stators, rotors, speed sensing and interconnect assemblies from conceptual phase into production.
  • Drive development in winding and magnet technologies, steel stamping and stack construction, insulation systems, thermal sensing and cooling technology.
  • Design with a heavy focus for manufacturing and assembly at production rates.
  • Evaluate cooling solutions for each application.
  • Design durability test profiles using vehicle usage data.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement activities, including process improvement, efficiency improvement and development of data analysis techniques.

Requirements

  • BS or higher degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Owned mechanical design of at least 1x motor from clean sheet design to production.
  • Experience in multiple winding technologies and rotor constructions.
  • Experience designing mechanical parts (CAD) in NX or Solidworks.
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods (stamping, winding, magnet insertion, insulation systems, balancing etc).
  • Proficient in mechanical drawings, ASME Y14.5 GD&T.
  • Experience procuring parts and working in a machine shop.
  • Working knowledge of machine safety and shop safety protocols.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • U.S. Person status is required as this position needs to access export-controlled data.

  • Deep mechanical design experience and proven track record of success for rotors, stators, and speed sensors.
  • Working knowledge of electromagnetic analysis.
  • Design for volume manufacturing.
