About the position

The Propulsion Engineer III position at Blue Origin involves designing and developing combustion devices for rocket engines and spaceflight systems. This role is crucial for ensuring safe and repeatable space flight, contributing to the company's vision of enabling millions of people to live and work in space. The engineer will oversee the complete product life-cycle of combustion devices, from initial requirements through flight qualification, requiring a strong background in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and structural mechanics.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop combustion devices including injectors, chambers, nozzles, thrusters, and igniters.
  • Manage the complete product life-cycle of combustion devices from initial requirements through flight qualification.
  • Support manufacturing and testing processes for combustion devices.
  • Perform test data reviews and process non-conforming hardware.
  • Write technical reports related to combustion device development.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering (aerospace, mechanical, chemical, or physics desired).
  • 5+ years of proven experience in a related field.
  • 1+ years of Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience.
  • Solid understanding of a variety of combustion devices.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Familiarity with data analysis and data processing.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. in engineering or higher.
  • Strong technical fundamentals in propulsion, fluids, thermodynamics, and combustion analysis.
  • Knowledge of the entire combustion devices life cycle from design, development, qualification, acceptance, and production.
  • Experience with Creo (Pro/E) Wildfire 5 or greater, Windchill 10.
