About the position

The Propulsion Engineer II - Valves and Mechanisms position at Blue Origin involves designing and developing valves and mechanisms that control rocket engines. This role is integral to the entire component development process, including requirement definition, design, testing, qualification, manufacturing, and sustained product support. The engineer will work collaboratively with a diverse team and will be responsible for ensuring safe and repeatable space flight, contributing to the company's mission of enabling millions of people to live and work in space.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop valves and mechanisms for rocket engines.
  • Participate in the entire component development process including requirement definition, design, development testing, qualification, manufacturing, and sustained product support.
  • Collaborate with colleagues at multiple sites including Kent, WA and Huntsville, AL.
  • Work closely with shop floor personnel for assembly and testing of components.
  • Apply technical expertise and leadership skills to impact safe human spaceflight.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in engineering discipline (aerospace, mechanical, chemical or physics desired) or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of professional engineering experience.
  • Computer aided design (CAD) experience.
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in engineering discipline.
  • Experience with component fabrication (mill, lathe, CNC, welding, etc.).
  • Strong technical fundamentals in propulsion, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and structural analysis.
  • Experience with cryogenic valves and related hardware.
  • Liquid rocket or jet engine development experience with pressurized fluid components.
  • Experience with Creo (Pro/E) Wildfire 5 or greater, Windchill 10.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and data processing.
  • Experience with programming (i.e. Python).
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
