About the position

HII Mission Technologies Division's Fighters, Advanced Aircraft, Bombers, and Propulsion Systems Team is seeking a senior-level systems engineer with expertise in aircraft propulsion systems. This role involves direct support to the Propulsion Acquisition Division at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, where the candidate will provide system design, development, integration, and testing products, along with subject matter expertise on a variety of aircraft engines for the US Air Force. The position requires performing technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, and conducting supportability and effectiveness analyses for total aircraft propulsion systems. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that consider technical, schedule, and cost constraints. This includes performing functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. The role also emphasizes the application of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles to enhance innovation, increase operational efficiencies, and assist in the development, integration, and certification of complex systems. Participation in the System Engineering life cycle is crucial, which encompasses requirements development, architecture development, system analyses (including reliability and maintainability), integration and test planning, and system verification. The candidate will employ various testing, analysis, and modeling and simulation tools to estimate or calculate system performance, ensuring that all aspects of the propulsion systems are thoroughly evaluated and optimized for operational effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.
  • Conduct system analysis at all levels including concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.
  • Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Apply Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles to speed innovation, increase operating efficiencies, and assist in development, integration, and certification of complex systems.
  • Participate in the System Engineering life cycle, including requirements development, architecture development, system analyses (reliability, maintainability, etc.), integration and test planning, and system verification.
  • Employ various testing, analysis, and modeling and simulation tools to estimate or calculate system performance.

Requirements

  • 15 years relevant experience with a Bachelor's in a related field; 13 years relevant experience with a Master's in a related field; 10 years relevant experience with a PhD or Juris Doctorate in a related field.
  • Demonstrated skills in planning, implementing, and reporting on Systems Engineering activities on previous propulsion-related efforts.
  • Experience in a variety of aspects of aerospace design development processes including design, analysis, testing, and integration.
  • Candidate will be required to work with other engineering disciplines.
  • Must possess a Secret security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with MBSE tools, such as Cameo, Enterprise Architect, and/or Rhapsody.
  • Working knowledge of MATLAB, PYTHON, and other programming languages.
  • Knowledge of engine test facilities and capabilities available within the U.S. Air Force or industry.
  • High-Speed Airbreathing propulsion experience.
  • Solid rocket propulsion experience.
  • Multidisciplinary Design, Analysis, and Optimization experience.
