About the position

The Propulsion Engineer - Turbomachinery position at Blue Origin involves designing, developing, manufacturing, and testing rocket engines to support the next generation of human space travel. This role is critical in ensuring the safety and reliability of turbomachinery hardware throughout its lifecycle, contributing to the company's mission of enabling millions of people to live and work in space. The engineer will lead and mentor a team while driving design and production initiatives, focusing on continuous improvement and quality optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of turbomachinery hardware throughout the entire product lifecycle, from design to testing.
  • Drive design, production, and testing of turbomachinery for various spaceflight systems.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize product and process quality.
  • Guide and mentor teammates using strong design knowledge and mechanical design fundamentals.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams to ensure effective communication of complex technical data.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 5+ years proven track record in production, manufacturing, and assembly of turbomachinery components.
  • Strong knowledge of hardware fabrication and quality control.
  • Solid understanding of rotating machinery component design and manufacturing including turbines, impellers, cases, bearings, and seals.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and post-processing to assess component health.
  • Ability to effectively lead and collaborate with multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams.
  • CAD and modeling experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with quality management systems supporting aerospace and propulsion-related hardware.
  • Experience transitioning products from development to production.
  • Experience with product production, qualification testing and flight operations.
  • Experience with turbomachinery specific to rocket engine applications.
  • Experience with cryogenic fluids and oxygen compatibility.
  • FEA modeling experience.

  • Competitive salary range of $111,690.00-$156,366.00 for WA applicants.
