About the position

The Turbomachinery Engineer role at Anduril Industries is pivotal in advancing the company's propulsion development efforts. This position focuses on the design, analysis, and optimization of air-breathing propulsion systems, ensuring they meet stringent performance and manufacturing criteria. The engineer will collaborate closely with manufacturing teams and lead projects from conception through testing and validation, contributing to the innovative goals of the defense technology sector.

Responsibilities

  • Own critical turbomachinery components and manage all aspects of their design and analysis.
  • Assist in research and development for aircraft engines and advanced combustion systems.
  • Conduct aerodynamic and thermodynamic analysis for new and existing designs.
  • Ensure turbomachinery solutions meet manufacturing goals, cost, weight, and schedule requirements.
  • Lead projects from conception through testing and validation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in turbomachinery engineering.
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engine fundamentals.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining 3D models of compressor geometry.
  • Exposure to testing of engines or powertrain components.
  • Proven expertise in aerodynamics and thermodynamics of turbomachinery.
  • Professional experience using Siemens NX (Unigraphics) or other CAD packages.
  • U.S. Person status required for access to export controlled data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with air-breathing propulsion systems (small jet engines, APUs).
  • Experience with numerical analysis toolsets for turbomachinery (AxStream, Concepts NREC).
  • Experience with aerodynamic rig testing techniques for turbomachinery components.
  • Experience stage matching using multistage 3D CFD (e.g., ADS, APNASA, FINE/Turbo).
  • Familiarity with turbine cycle analysis (NPSS).
  • Professional experience designing, testing, or flying air-breathing combustors, augmentors, ignition systems, variable area nozzles, or turbomachinery.
